Make These Cool Summer Drinks with Your Kids

Think fruit smoothies. June is Dairy Month.  We all know milk is good for bone growth and strong teeth, so here’s a recipe to entice our children to drink more of it.

Many fresh fruits are on the market now.  The selection will continue to expand throughout the summer.  Strawberries and blueberries are in season.  Bananas are always available.  Fresh New Jersey peaches arrive in July.  Kids will love these fruity, milky drinks:

You can make fruit smoothies in hundreds of ways.  Experiment with tastes and textures to create your own family favorites.  Serve them as after play snacks.

 

 

Fruit Smoothie Recipe:

  • Carton of low-fat yogurt (blueberry, strawberry, peach)
  • 1 cup skim or 1% milk
  • 1 cup fresh fruit or combination of fruits like strawberries and bananas
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • Add together in blender and blend until smooth.  Serve immediately or refrigerate.
